Mimi Larsson is a researcher affiliated with the Department of Anthropology and Ethnography at Århus University. Her work focuses on post-socialist societal change, particularly through an anthropological analysis of the Hungarian Telecottage Movement (HTM) as a case study of political agency in non-political practices. Her research bridges political science and social anthropology, emphasizing cultural approaches to understanding democratic transition processes in Hungary.
Larsson's thesis examines how the HTM, despite claiming non-political status, engages in political struggles by institutionalizing social practices that redefine power structures and democratic ideals. It critiques system-oriented theories of democratization, highlighting the transformative role of NGOs in shaping civil society and information society technology (IST) access. The study also explores tensions between Western donor frameworks and local realities in post-socialist contexts.
