Millicent Johnnie is a Visiting Associate Professor specializing in dance, cinema, and story development at the University of Florida's School of Theatre + Dance. Her interdisciplinary work blends choreography, film production, and cultural activism with a focus on community engagement and African diasporic traditions.
Her creative portfolio includes choreography for Broadway-bound productions, operas, films (including 'Scary Movie 5'), and the Rio 2016 Olympic Opening Ceremonies. She has directed and produced several films exploring dance and cultural narratives such as 'Bamboula is Not Bamboozled' and 'La DiaBlesse Curse'. Her current feature film 'Ma Negresse' is in post-production.
Johnnie utilizes a movement vocabulary combining classical African dance, European techniques, hip hop, and folk traditions. Her administrative leadership includes previous roles as Associate Artistic Director of Urban Bush Women and teaching positions at Tulane University and Dillard University.
