University of Leedsمعرفی
Dr Miller Alonso Camargo-Valero serves as Associate Professor of BioResource Systems at the School of Civil Engineering, University of Leeds, where he also holds leadership roles as Head of Graduate School for the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and leader of the BioResource Systems Research Group.
His academic credentials include a PhD in Public Health Engineering from the University of Leeds (2009), an MSc(Eng) in Environmental Engineering from the National University of Colombia (1998), and a BEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from the National University of Colombia (1996).
His research centers on Water and Sanitation in Developing Countries and Resource Recovery from Low-grade waste streams, with emphasis on natural wastewater treatment systems, wastewater reuse in agriculture, nutrient recovery from excreta, renewable energy generation from organic waste via anaerobic digestion, and algal biomass cultivation. His work integrates environmental engineering with circular economy principles to optimize water-carbon-nitrogen-phosphorus cycles in waste management.
He currently supervises seven postgraduate researchers and secures major research funding including H2 BOOST Phase 2 (£5M, DESNZ UK), BioCool (£120k, Innovate UK), Green H2 (£20k, WUN), Global STEM (£25k, British Council), Duckweed 2 (£5k, WUN), H2OforAll (€4.0M, Horizon Europe), SCARE (£1.2M, Gates Foundation), and GCRF Water Hub (£17M, ESRC).
Leading the BioResource Systems Research Group, he maintains active international collaborations across 11 countries including Colombia, Mexico, Uganda, Nepal, and Indonesia, with particular focus on sustainable sanitation solutions for low-resource settings.
