Milja Mladenović, PhD is a Research Associate in the Department of Urbanism at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Architecture. Born on December 31, 1995, in Belgrade, she completed her entire academic journey at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, earning her bachelor's in Architecture, master's in Integrated Urbanism, and doctoral degree in Architecture and Urbanism. She successfully defended her dissertation titled Modalities of Digital Media Application for Cultural Heritage Presentation in Public Spaces in 2023 with the highest grade after enrolling in doctoral studies in 2019.
Her research expertise spans urban memory, cultural heritage presentation through digital media, and the intersection of historical urban layers with contemporary planning frameworks. Mladenović approaches cities as palimpsests where visible and invisible memories coexist, developing innovative methods for presenting cultural heritage without physically altering public spaces. Her work bridges traditional urban studies with cutting-edge digital technologies, creating pathways for democratic heritage presentation that accommodates multiple historical narratives.
Analysis of her publications reveals a consistent focus on Belgrade's urban memory, particularly around Students Square and Dorćol settlement. Her research demonstrates how digital layering can reveal forgotten historical narratives while connecting them to contemporary urban planning challenges. She has pioneered approaches that use mixed-reality technologies to transform public spaces into interactive educational environments that engage citizens with their city's layered history.
