Miles Phillips is a Professor at Oregon State University's College of Forestry, holding dual roles as Professor of Practice and Director of the Sustainable Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Program through Oregon Sea Grant. His work integrates tourism, agriculture, forestry, and natural resources to promote sustainable economic and environmental outcomes. He leads extension programs serving coastal and rural communities, businesses, and public agencies.
Prior roles include Associate Department Head for Extension at Texas A&M University and positions with South Carolina Sea Grant. His expertise spans training professional tour operators, optimizing visitor impacts, and developing certification programs like the Guide & Outfitter Recognized Professional (GORP).
Research focuses on for-profit wildlife conservation models, agritourism strategies, and triple-bottom-line approaches to community well-being. He advises Convention and Visitor Bureaus, hotels, tour operators, and conservation organizations across 254 Texas counties and internationally.
