Miles Greiner is a Foundation Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. He holds a Ph.D. from MIT and has over 35 years of academic and research experience. His research focuses on heat transfer, nuclear packaging safety, fire dynamics, and renewable energy systems. Greiner has led numerous federally funded projects, including DOE and NASA initiatives, totaling millions of dollars in grants.
Education: B.S. from UC Berkeley (1979), M.S. and Ph.D. from MIT (1982, 1986). Employment history includes roles at Standard Oil Chevron, MIT, and UNR since 1986. He has advised over 30 graduate students and postdocs, contributing to advancements in thermal safety and nuclear waste transport technologies.
Notable awards include the ASME Fellow designation (2006) and the Lemelson Innovation Award (2008). His research emphasizes enhancing heat transfer mechanisms, fire safety in nuclear transport, and computational modeling. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and edited conference volumes on thermal science.
Greiner also directs UNR’s Nuclear Packaging Graduate Certificate program, integrating practical industry experience with academic rigor. His work bridges thermal engineering, nuclear safety, and sustainable energy solutions.
