Mikko Puustinen is an Associate Professor and University Lecturer in History and Social Science Education at the University of Helsinki's Department of Education under the Faculty of Educational Sciences. His work bridges educational theory and societal engagement, focusing on the recontextualization of disciplinary knowledge within curricula and public discourse. He holds a PhD and was awarded the title of Associate Professor by the University of Tampere in 2025.
Key research interests include the history of Finnish teacher education, the rhetoric of education debates in media, and the interplay between education and societal processes. He actively collaborates internationally on projects like 'PowerKnow' (2023-2027), exploring powerful knowledge in geography, history, and social studies education. Leading the 'Difficult Topics and Dialogue in Education' project, he investigates academic discussion cultures and curriculum development.
His scholarship spans over 50 peer-reviewed articles and edited volumes such as Erimielisten tila: Vaikeiden aiheiden käsittely opetuksessa (2025).
