Mikkel Knudsen is a Researcher and Doctoral Candidate at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Business and Economics, and Law (FSEJ Common) at the University of Turku. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Copenhagen (2010). His current research focuses on the temporality of policymaking and the application of futures studies in political contexts.
Knudsen is affiliated with the Finland Futures Research Centre, where he serves as a Project Researcher. His work bridges political science with futures research, examining topics like Industry 4.0 technologies, digital transformation trends, and scenario-building for emerging technologies such as 6G networks. He has contributed to interdisciplinary projects analyzing global technology landscapes using tools like Google Trends and longitudinal data analysis.
His research interests span futures studies, public policy analysis, and the societal implications of technological change. He has published widely on topics including future generations in policy frameworks, digital twin applications in manufacturing, and plausible scenarios for future mobile networks. Knudsen actively engages in academic peer review, serving as a reviewer for journals like Futures & Foresight Science and American Sociological Review.
Knudsen’s work has been cited in multiple disciplines, with notable contributions to understanding gaps between technological visions and industrial realities. He has also participated in public discourse, including a recent podcast for the Åland Islands Peace Research Institute’s Kastelholm Talks 2024, highlighting his role as a bridge between academic research and societal engagement.
