Mikkel Flohr is a Researcher at Roskilde University's Department of Social Sciences and Business. His research focuses on political theory, the history of ideas, and constitutional law, with current projects funded by the Carlsberg Foundation. He holds a PhD from Roskilde University (2019), an MA in Philosophy and Contemporary Critical Theory from Kingston University (2012), an MSc in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics (2009), and a BA in Politics and International Relations from the University of Westminster (2008).
His research interests include democracy, populism, states of exception, securitization, and discourse analysis. Key theoretical influences include Foucault, Agamben, Marx, and critical theory. He employs qualitative methods such as discourse analysis and archival research.
Flohr has authored over 70 publications, including journal articles and conference papers, focusing on themes like political theology, Marx's materialist critique, and the conceptual history of democracy. He has held visiting positions at the University of Westminster (2020–2022) and UC Berkeley (2015–2016). His teaching spans political science, research methodologies, and critical theory.
Current research projects include 'Politics of the Exception' and 'Reconceptualizing Populism,' exploring the genealogy of the 'people' concept in political thought. He has supervised numerous BA/MA theses and actively participates in academic networks like the Danish Society for Marxist Studies.
