Francesco Campo is a Research Fellow in the Department of Social Sciences and Business at Roskilde University, specializing in Global Political Sociology and Europeanization. His work focuses on democracy, populism, and contentious politics. He holds an MA in Intercultural Studies from Aarhus University and a BA in International Studies from the University of Turin.
- PhD (2024): Examined opposition to populist parties in Italy and Spain (2013-2021), funded by the Carlsberg Foundation.
- Postdoc: Studies climate governance in Europe, supported by Trans4Demo (Horizon Europe) and ValEUs (Jean Monnet).
Research interests include the interplay between democracy and far-right movements, climate activism, and political contestation. His work analyzes how institutional and societal actors respond to populism through discourse and practice, with a focus on contentious mobilization strategies.
Teaching spans BA/MA courses on global governance and populism, including coordinating the VALEU Summer School on Euroscepticism and Populism. He has contributed to datasets like the Initiatives Opposing Populist Parties (IoPP) in Europe.
