Professor Nakao's research focuses on comparative immunology in fish, including fish immunology, aquatic immunology, and molecular immunology. He uses model organisms such as medaka (Oryzias latipes) and crucian carp to investigate immune responses, immune cell markers (e.g., CD83 homologs), and environmental impacts on immune function like microplastic-induced immunotoxicity.
His 2023-2025 publications reveal consistent themes: molecular characterization of fish immune pathways (toll-like receptors, CD83 isotypes), immune cell differentiation mechanisms, and environmental immunotoxicology. This work bridges fundamental immunology with aquatic ecosystem health, emphasizing teleost fish models for understanding conserved immune principles.
