Mikhail Otrokov serves as an Ikerbasque Research Fellow at the Center for Materials Physics (CFM), a joint research institution of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of the Basque Country in Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain. He holds dual affiliation as a DIPC Associate at the Donostia International Physics Center, contributing to advanced materials research within Spain's premier physics ecosystem.
His research centers on intrinsic magnetic topological insulators—exotic quantum materials where topological electronic states coexist with spontaneous magnetic order. This work bridges condensed matter theory and experimental materials science, targeting applications in low-power electronics and quantum computing through manipulation of spin-momentum locking phenomena. His investigations specifically address the stabilization mechanisms of magnetic order in topological phases and their emergent electromagnetic responses.
With continuous association since 2008 spanning 12 research stays, Dr. Otrokov operates within CFM's collaborative framework that integrates theoretical modeling, thin-film synthesis, and advanced spectroscopic characterization. His position under the Ikerbasque Foundation's prestigious fellowship program underscores recognition of his contributions to quantum materials science in the Basque research community.
