Mikhail Matz is a Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at Austin, affiliated with the Biodiversity Center and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Graduate Programs. His research investigates genomic adaptation mechanisms in reef-building corals facing environmental variability and climate change.
His work integrates ecological field studies with quantitative genetics, genome-wide genotyping, gene expression analysis, and coalescent-based demography modeling. Key research domains include Climate Change, Evolution, Biodiversity, Ecology and Global Change Biology, Computational Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Genomics, and Bioinformatics, with methodological innovations in genomic analysis for non-model organisms.
The Matz Lab actively develops laboratory and bioinformatic tools for coral genomics and maintains an open recruitment policy for new researchers through its 'Join the lab' initiative, reflecting ongoing projects in coral population resilience.
