Dr. Mike Simpson is a Senior Lecturer in Management Sciences at the Management School of The University of Sheffield, holding a part-time appointment. With a PhD in Physical/Analytical Chemistry and advanced qualifications in Marketing and Business, he bridges technical expertise and management theory. His roles include subject group leadership for Operations Management and Marketing, Teaching Co-ordinator for the Management Division, and External Examiner for Tunku Abdul Rahman College in Malaysia.
His research focuses on SMEs, emphasizing environmental sustainability, competitive advantage, and marketing strategies. He has authored over 140 articles and book chapters, with recent work addressing climate change policies and SME performance. Simpson’s industry experience includes roles in semiconductor research and consultancy for SMEs in operations and marketing. He has also contributed to policy interventions for environmental improvements in SMEs and explored the role of e-business and ERP systems in creating competitive advantages.
His teaching spans Operations Management, Supply Chain, and Project Management modules, integrating quantitative analysis and operational research. Simpson actively supervises PhD students exploring SME-related topics and maintains a focus on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of science, technology, and management.
