Dr. Mike Maly is the Provost & Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs at Roosevelt University, a role he assumed after serving as Interim Provost since March 2024. He has held multiple leadership positions at Roosevelt since joining the Sociology Department in 1997, including Professor and Chair of Sociology, Director of the Policy Research Collaborative, and Senior Vice Provost of Academic Affairs. His academic background includes a BS in Sociology from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and an MA and PhD in Sociology from Loyola University Chicago.
Dr. Maly champions liberal arts education and applied learning, advocating for programs that support marginalized student groups. Under his leadership, Roosevelt has secured nearly $60 million in grants for initiatives like the STEM Center, Laker Food Pantry, and McNair Scholars Program. He spearheaded Roosevelt’s designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), securing $5 million to expand STEM access through the PRIME initiative. His strategic goals align with Roosevelt’s mission to promote social justice, accessibility, and inclusive education.
His research focuses on urban sociology, racial residential segregation, and community development, reflected in publications addressing neighborhood diversity, gentrification, and policy impacts. Dr. Maly emphasizes celebrating Roosevelt’s urban and minority-majority identity to prepare graduates for socially conscious professional roles.
