Mike Gibisser

Mike Gibisser is an Associate Professor in the Film, Video, Animation & New Genres department at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He also serves as the Graduate Program Representative and Co-Chair of the Programming Committee. His work bridges narrative, documentary, experimental, and essay filmmaking. Gibisser holds an MFA in Moving Image from the University of Illinois-Chicago and an MA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

His creative output includes two narrative feature films (Finally, Lillian and Dan and World of Facts), a feature film essay (The Day of Two Noons), and numerous experimental shorts. His work has been showcased at major international festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival, Oberhausen Film Festival, and Harvard Film Archive, with critical coverage in Artforum, Variety, and Cinemascope.

Gibisser’s interdisciplinary approach explores blurred boundaries between cinematic genres, emphasizing conceptual storytelling and visual experimentation. No specific grants or awards are listed, though his exhibitions indicate significant industry recognition.
