Mike Eckerty is Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music at Simpson College, where he also serves as Director of Instrumental Ensembles. He leads the Symphonic Band, College/Community Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles, and teaches applied bassoon, conducting, and secondary music education courses.

He has performed with numerous professional orchestras across the Midwest and has served as guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator in several states. His background includes high school band direction and assistant conducting roles with regional ensembles.
Dr. Eckerty is actively engaged in performance and collaboration, notably with his pianist wife, Dr. Christy Eckerty. He has won concerto competitions at both the University of Georgia and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, highlighting his performance excellence.
He has held significant leadership roles, including Director of Bands at Mill Valley High School and assistant conductor with the Kansas City Wind Symphony. A former drum major of the Baylor University Golden Wave Band, his career began as an assistant band director in Monahans, Texas.
His teaching and artistic work reflect a deep commitment to music education, ensemble performance, and instrumental pedagogy.
