Mike Burkart

Mike Burkart is Professor of Finance and Head of Department at the London School of Economics. His research focuses on corporate governance mechanisms, takeover regulation, and shareholder rights, with emphasis on contractual solutions to agency conflicts.

He holds honorary doctorates and professorships from leading European institutions including the University of St. Gallen and Stockholm School of Economics. His influential work on minority shareholder protection has shaped corporate finance theory.

Recent publications analyze bankruptcy law's role in distress investing, shareholder empowerment in contractual environments, and historical governance designs. This work extends his foundational research on tender offers, blockholder monitoring, and ownership concentration.
