Mike Brownsell is an Associate Professor and Head of Division for the Practice Assessment Record & Evaluation (PARE) Service at the University of Chester. He holds a PhD in e-learning (2016) and has over 30 years' experience as a registered nurse in NHS and military settings. As a Lieutenant Colonel in the UK Army Reserve's 206 Multi Role Regiment, he specializes in clinical skills for austere environments. His research focuses on digital education in healthcare, clinical competency assessment, and trauma care in extreme conditions.
Education:
- PhD in e-learning and staff/student experience (University of Chester, 2016)
Research Interests: Educator/learner experiences in digital platforms, ballistic injury care in resource-limited settings, and clinical skills evaluation. His PARE service supports over 40 UK universities with practice assessment tools.
Teaching & Military Roles: Delivers webinars, online workshops, and digital assessment training. In the military, teaches field hospital clinical skills and austere care protocols.
Grants & Consultancies: Over 138 funded projects, including PARE service licenses with NHS trusts (e.g., Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, East Cheshire NHS Trust) and universities (e.g., Keele, Nottingham Trent).
