Professor Steve Jones is a mental health and research lead at Chester Medical School, University of Chester. He holds adjunct roles at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (India) and JSS Hospital, Mysore. His academic rank is Professor, specializing in applied medicine with a focus on suicide prevention, cognitive disorders, and mental health policy. He has over 20 years of clinical and advisory experience in the NHS and international settings, including India.
Education includes a PhD in Psychology from Edge Hill University, MSc in Forensic Behavioural Science from the University of Liverpool, and nursing qualifications (RGN, RMN). His research spans deliberate self-harm intervention strategies, dementia care in aging populations with intellectual disabilities, and substance misuse in correctional facilities.
Recent work includes co-creating the PROTECtoolkit for pandemic preparedness in care homes and leading studies on anxiety management programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities. He has secured NIHR grants and contributed to policy reviews for mental health crises, including roles in NHS advisory bodies and SAGE's mental health expert database.
Teaching responsibilities include leading psychiatry courses and postgraduate certifications in neurodevelopmental conditions. His international collaborations emphasize culturally adapted mental health assessments, such as the ADAS-Cog Kannada version for South Indian dementia screening.
