Mike Axtell

Dr. Mike Axtell is a Professor of Mathematics and Actuarial Science at the University of St. Thomas, College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Iowa and a BS in Mathematics with a minor in History from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. His research focuses on Commutative Ring Theory, Abstract Algebra, and Mathematics Education. He contributes to the academic community through publications in journals like Communications in Algebra and Mathematics and Computer Education, and serves on the MAA Notes editorial board.

Teaching responsibilities for Fall 2025 include Advanced Topics in Risk Management & Insurance (FINC 402/ACSC 402), and Calculus with Review I (MATH 108) in two sections. He has previously published in Commutative Ring Theory and Graph Theory areas. His work emphasizes undergraduate education and actuarial science curriculum development.
