Mikaya Lumori

Mikaya Lumori is a tenured full Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of San Diego with extensive international research experience. He maintains an active visiting research position at the Free University of Brussels (VUB) Department of Electrical Engineering since 2007 and has held prior research appointments at University College London, Imperial College London's Medical Research Council Cyclotron Unit, and the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Lumori's research centers on electromagnetics, where he pioneered the Gaussian Beam Model for electromagnetic hyperthermia cancer treatment planning. His work spans ultrasonics (underwater acoustics and medical ultrasound applications), electronic packaging, and advanced system identification techniques. Since 2016, he has spearheaded non-integer derivative system (NDS) research for fractional order control (FOC) applications in collaboration with Dr. Subramanian Shastri and USD students. His methodologies emphasize automation and elimination of user interaction in signal processing workflows.

Analysis of his 2010-2015 publications reveals consistent focus on frequency-domain system identification, spectral analysis of multi-frequency signals, and nonlinear circuit characterization. His IEEE Transactions papers demonstrate progressive refinement of techniques for transfer function estimation, impulse response truncation, and automated period/spectral content extraction - primarily developed through his longstanding collaboration with Prof. Johan Schoukens' group at VUB.

His primary research collaboration occurs within the Department of Electrical Engineering (Dept ELEC) at the Free University of Brussels, where he integrates with Prof. Schoukens' system identification research group while maintaining his core appointment at the University of San Diego.
