Mikael Askander is an Associate Professor in Intermedia Studies at Lund University, affiliated with the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology and the Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences. His research and teaching focus on intermediality, popular culture, digital cultures/media, and music/musicology.

His research bridges intermediality with digital and urban cultures, exploring how media interact in contemporary contexts. Recent projects include the Soundscape of K-Pop: A Study of K-Pop Fanchants in Concerts and Intermedial Networks: The Digital Present and Beyond. Publications span analyses of Bruno K. Öijer's intermedial poetry and theoretical frameworks for transmedial storyworlds.
Teaching includes courses like Intermedia Studies: Audio Narratives in Different Media and Intermedial Studies: An Introduction. He has participated in international conferences on digital literature, iconicity, and popular culture, and held leadership roles such as assistant dean for undergraduate education at Lund University.
