Mihalis Vrekoussis is a tenured Professor at the University of Bremen, Germany, and an Adjunct Professor at the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) of The Cyprus Institute. His expertise spans atmospheric chemistry and physics, with a focus on air quality and numerical modeling.
Education:
- B.Sc. in Chemistry (University of Crete, 1999)
- M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Environmental/Analytical Chemistry (University of Crete, 2002–2005, with collaboration at the Max Planck Institute)
Research Interests: His work integrates observational data (in situ, remote sensing) and numerical models (0D box, 3D transport) to study pollutants, aerosols, and atmospheric processes affecting air quality, climate, and health. Key areas include trace gas dynamics, aerosol origin/emission analysis, and model-driven mechanistic insights.
Career Highlights:
- Over 25 years of experience with 90+ peer-reviewed publications and 300+ conference presentations
- Principal investigator/scientific partner in 30+ national/international projects
- Postdoctoral fellowships at ECPL (Crete), IUP (Bremen), and the Academy of Athens
Awards:
- Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (2006–2009)
- Marie Curie Fellowship (2006–2009)
Labs/Teams: Active within CARE-C at The Cyprus Institute and the University of Bremen’s research groups, focusing on environmental observations, predictions, and policy innovation.
