Mihaela Aslan

Mihaela Aslan, Ph.D., is a Researcher in the Department of General Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. She holds a PhD in Statistics from Yale University (2002) and has been affiliated with the VA Cooperative Studies Program (CSP) for over 23 years, currently serving as Director of the Clinical Epidemiology Research Center (CERC). Her research focuses on methodological advancements in biostatistics, including growth mixture models, competing risks analysis, and target trial emulation for observational studies. Dr. Aslan’s clinical epidemiology work spans infectious diseases (COVID-19, RSV, influenza), mental health conditions (bipolar disorder, PTSD), veterans’ health (Gulf War syndrome, HIV management), and genomic studies. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to translate research into clinical practice improvements, emphasizing veteran healthcare equity and translational science.

Research Interests: Methodological innovations in clinical trials, vaccine efficacy evaluation, genomic epidemiology, and multi-site observational study designs. Her work addresses critical public health challenges such as pandemic response optimization, chronic disease management, and mental health disparities.

Leadership: As CERC Director, she mentors junior researchers and oversees collaborative projects between academia and federal healthcare systems. Her team develops predictive models (e.g., for post-COVID mortality) and evaluates interventions using real-world data.
