Miguel Gomez is the Robert G. Tobin Professor of Food Marketing at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University. He also serves as Faculty Director of the Food Industry Management Program and a Fellow of the David R. Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future. His research focuses on food supply chain competitiveness, sustainability, and negotiation dynamics, with emphasis on Latin America and global agricultural systems.
Education: Gomez holds an MS and PhD in Applied Economics from the University of Illinois. His work bridges interdisciplinary collaborations to assess economic, social, and environmental dimensions of food systems.
Research Interests: Gomez’s research examines food value chain sustainability, demand response in markets, and smallholder farmer participation in global chains. He investigates topics such as pest management policies, consumer valuation of local products, and carbon policy impacts on fruit supply chains.
Awards: He has received the prestigious Rising Star Faculty Award from Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, recognizing his contributions to teaching and research. His work has been funded by NSF, USDA, and multilateral institutions like the FAO and IDB.
Grants & Labs: Gomez leads projects funded by over 100 grants, including studies on spotted lanternfly impacts on NY vineyards and bioeconomic models for pest management. He collaborates with teams analyzing sustainable practices in coffee, avocado, and citrus sectors.
