Miguel Giadas Quintela

Miguel Giadas Quintela is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), affiliated with the Department of Classical, French and Italian Philology within the Faculty of Philology. His research focuses on medieval philology, particularly the works of Gonzalo de Hinojosa, with a specialization in Latin Philology and classical traditions in Iberian medieval texts. Giadas Quintela earned his Doctorate from USC in 2023 with a thesis titled As Cronice ab origine mundi by Gonzalo de Hinojosa (books I-IV): study and edition, supervised by Dr. Helena de Carlos Villamarín. His academic work emphasizes textual criticism, medieval historiography, and the interplay between classical mythology and medieval Hispanic literature.

His publications analyze Gonzalo de Hinojosa’s Cronice ab origine mundi, exploring themes like urban descriptions in medieval chronicles, the persistence of classical figures (e.g., Gárgoris and Habis), and the influence of Alfonsine literary traditions. Recent articles also engage with Baroque theater and classical myth in Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz’s works.
