معرفی
Miguel Angel Caviedes Formento is a Full Professor at the University of Seville's Department of Microbiology and Parasitology within the Faculty of Pharmacy. His research focuses on environmental biotechnology, particularly the application of plant-microbe symbiosis for bioremediation of heavy metal-contaminated soils and waters. He has led numerous national and international research projects, including EU-funded initiatives, exploring rhizobacteria-legume interactions, metal resistance mechanisms, and phytoremediation strategies.
Key research areas include: 1) Engineering symbiotic systems for metal sequestration, 2) Isolation of metal-tolerant rhizobacteria, and 3) Ecological restoration of polluted ecosystems using native plant species like Spartina maritima and Arthrocnemum macrostachyum. His work integrates molecular biology, microbiology, and environmental science to develop sustainable bioremediation technologies.
Notable contributions include developing transgenic systems for enhanced metal tolerance, discovering novel plant growth-promoting bacteria, and advancing understanding of symbiotic nitrogen fixation under stress conditions. His research has been published in high-impact journals like Environmental Science & Technology, New Phytologist, and Plant Physiology.
He has supervised multiple doctoral theses and maintains active collaborations with institutions in Tunisia, Morocco, and France. Current projects focus on Mediterranean ecosystem restoration and agro-biotechnological solutions for metal-contaminated agricultural soils.
