Mieke Stevens is the Unit Head for Education Coordination in Biomedical Sciences at Ghent University. She holds a PhD in Veterinary Sciences (2012) from Ghent University's Department of Comparative Physiology and Biometrics, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and a Master's in Biomedical Sciences from the same institution. Her research focuses on lactation physiology, innate immune systems, and comparative physiology, with particular emphasis on bovine neutrophils and inflammatory mediators.
Since 2015, she has been a voluntary collaborator at the Department of Comparative Physiology and Biometrics, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Her work bridges veterinary science and public health, emphasizing One Health approaches. She has contributed to peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from Salmonella contamination in poultry to tropical animal health education programs.
Stevens is actively involved in educational innovation, including designing cross-continental online master's programs in tropical animal health. Her research and teaching emphasize global health challenges and interdisciplinary collaboration.
