Mie Kongo is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Ceramics Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she has taught since 2009. She holds an MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art (2008), a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2006), and a BA in Art History from Roosevelt University (1997). Her work explores the intersection of traditional ceramic techniques with digital technologies, focusing on geometric abstraction and material interplay.

Kongo’s research centers on ceramic materiality, digital prototyping, and minimalist sculpture. She investigates how chance, found materials, and formal logic create dynamic compositions. Her practice is influenced by Japanese aesthetics, minimalism, and architectural forms.
