Mie Josefson is a Senior Lecturer at Stockholm University, affiliated with the Department of Child and Youth Studies. She serves as Program Manager for the Preschool Teacher Program and is part of the research group Practical Research in and about Preschool (PraFF), which focuses on practice-based research in early childhood education.
Her research centers on proximity ethics, analyzing the meaning of care in preschool settings through the lens of responsibility and interpersonal relationships. Her doctoral thesis (2018) examines how responsibility is articulated in preschool teachers' speech before and after the implementation of Sweden's preschool curriculum (Lpfö98), highlighting tensions between educational mission and family support.
The thesis employed empirical data from interviews (1993-1995 and 2004-2006) to explore themes like control/safety, flexibility, and service-education dichotomies. She uses theoretical frameworks from Arne Johan Vetlesen, Zygmunt Bauman, and Per Nortvedt to advance understanding of care ethics in pedagogical practices.
