Mie Femø Nielsen

Mie Femø Nielsen is a Professor at the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics, University of Copenhagen, where she serves as Director of the Centre for Interaction Analysis and Communication Design (CIRCD). With over two decades of academic experience, she has established herself as a leading researcher in interaction analysis and organizational communication.

Her academic journey began with a PhD in Pragmatics and Conversation Analysis from the University of Copenhagen in 1998, following MA degrees in Danish Studies and Economics (1992) and Communication Studies (1991). She has held various academic positions at the University of Copenhagen since 1993, progressing from PhD grant stipendiate to Professor in 2013. Prior to this, she taught at the University of Roskilde from 1997-2001.

Professor Nielsen's research focuses on leadership and process facilitation in social interaction within professional settings. Employing video ethnography, Conversation Analysis (CA), and multimodal analysis, she examines business meetings, innovation workshops, and ICT-mediated interaction. Her current research explores trust manifestation, trust strategies in resocialization, virtual collaboration, and shared leadership dynamics.

Her extensive publication record demonstrates a consistent trajectory toward understanding how communication shapes organizational dynamics. With over 200 research outputs, she has made significant contributions to applying interaction analysis to solve real-world communication challenges.

Professor Nielsen teaches Methods in Communication and Culture Studies and Process Facilitation. As Director of CIRCD, she leads initiatives that bridge theoretical understanding with practical solutions for organizational communication challenges.
