Mie Engen is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University's Department of Sociology and Social Work, within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. She serves as Head of Studies for the Master's program in Vulnerable Children and Youth, Professional Management, and supervises PhD candidates. Her research focuses on social work with vulnerable populations, including children, families, and individuals with intellectual disabilities, emphasizing care, power dynamics, and professional practice. Engen holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Work and teaches courses in social work theory, qualitative research methods, and sociological analysis.
Her research projects include initiatives like 'BEST' (exploring child protection practices) and 'SSB' (supporting decision-making for individuals with intellectual disabilities). Engen is affiliated with SCOPAS and the Children and Youth Research Network, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and welfare. She actively collaborates with professional networks and media, addressing topics such as child welfare, family dynamics, and social work ethics.
Engen advises students and leads projects emphasizing participatory practices and sustainable care models. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications, advocating for ethical and inclusive approaches in social work.
