Mick Wu is a Researcher affiliated with the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ in Leipzig, Germany. His work focuses on ecological systems, environmental impacts, and the application of statistical and theoretical models to natural systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, with prior M.Sc. and postdoctoral research in social foraging behavior and pest management strategies.
Education:
- Ph.D. Projects: Investigated adaptive host choice in aphid parasitoids and scaling of ecological interactions.
- M.Sc./Research Assistant: Explored personality and risk-sensitivity in socially foraging birds, linking individual differences to group dynamics.
Research Interests: Integrating behavior, physiology, and environmental factors to understand ecological networks. Key areas include seal movement networks in Scotland, climate impacts on codling moth pest control via sterile insect techniques, and food web stability under climate change. His interdisciplinary approach combines field data, experimental studies, and computational modeling.
Projects:
- Harbour Seal Movements: Network models predicting seal distribution and disturbance effects across haul-out sites using telemetry data.
- Codling Moth Control: Simulating climate-driven changes in moth phenology and optimizing sterile insect technique efficacy in apple orchards.
- Food Web Dynamics: Modeling temperature effects on insect behavior and interspecies interactions to predict ecosystem stability.
Consulting: Offers statistical consulting services (Meaningful Statistics) for experimental design and data analysis.
