Michèle Preyde is a Professor in the Department of Family Relations & Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph's College of Social & Applied Human Sciences. Her research focuses on mental health outcomes for children and youth, particularly those receiving intensive treatments such as residential or inpatient care. She collaborates extensively with clinicians including social workers, nurses, and psychiatrists to study psychosocial impacts of illness, family dynamics, and transition to community living.
Her work emphasizes vulnerable populations, including those with substance use disorders, histories of child maltreatment, and psychosocial challenges related to medical illnesses. Key areas include school re-entry for psychiatric patients, electronic device use among hospitalized youth, and long-term adaptation post-treatment.
Dr. Preyde’s research integrates clinical and academic perspectives, with current projects examining youth transitions post-residential treatment, psychosocial needs of prostate cancer patients, and dissemination of findings on school reintegration. Her approach prioritizes practitioner-researcher collaboration to address gaps in mental health service delivery.
