Michèle Lazenby

Michèle Lazenby is a Senior Lecturer (part-time) in Film and Photography at Sheffield Hallam University since 2008. Her practice bridges art and ecology through camera-less photography, sound, and installation. She holds a BA (Hons) Fine Art from Glasgow School of Art and an MSc Electronic Imaging from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.

Research interests include animism, interspecies communication, and phenomenological engagement with nature. She has led residencies in Mexico and Scotland, setting a world record for the longest camera obscura negative (8.5m) and documenting previously unknown insect behaviors. Her work appears in collections like the Wellcome Trust.

Teaching focuses on BA Photography, guiding final-year independent projects and curating exhibitions such as 'Northern Light: Contemporary Landscape Photography' (2016). She co-founded the Media Arts Research Walking Group and participates in WREN (Wellbeing & Nature Engagement).
