Michelle Zerba is the Maggie B. Martin Professor of Rhetoric and Classical Studies at Louisiana State University (LSU), with a split appointment in the Departments of English and World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. She serves as Section Head of Classics and Co-Principal of The LSU Mystery Project Collaborative. Her work bridges antiquity and modernity, focusing on Greek/Roman literature/philosophy/rhetoric, early modern drama/political theory, classical reception, and ancient mystery cults.
Education: Ph.D. in Classics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Research interests include: classical reception studies, comparative literature, ancient Mediterranean intellectual traditions, early modern literary theory, and the afterlives of ancient mystery cults. Recent projects explore secrecy, occult practices, and ritual traditions in global modernisms.
Grants include support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, American School of Classical Studies at Athens, French Government's Partnership University Fund, and American Association of University Women.
Labs/Teams: Co-leads The LSU Mystery Project Collaborative, an interdisciplinary initiative studying mystery traditions across cultures and eras.
