Dr. Michelle Welch Brasfield is an Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of the School Counseling program at the University of Memphis. She holds a BA in Psychology from Rhodes College and an MS and EdD in Counseling from the University of Memphis.
Her research focuses on reducing burnout and secondary traumatic stress among educators, program evaluation, and creative interventions for children/youth. She collaborates with local Shelby County Schools through partnerships like the Geeter K8-University of Memphis Research Partnership and the University Schools Research Consortium.
Prior to academia, she served 13 years as a school counselor for a rural underserved population and four years as an urban elementary teacher. Her teaching includes courses on youth at-risk issues, school counseling program development, and PK12 college/career readiness.
