Bernell Elzey is a Teaching Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Antioch University Seattle, where he also serves as Program Director of the CMHC program. A proud native of New Orleans and graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana and the University of Holy Cross, Dr. Elzey brings extensive experience as a former high school teacher and school counselor, having been named Teacher of the Year at Warren Easton Charter High School in 2020.
His clinical and research work focuses on culturally responsive approaches for marginalized populations, with particular emphasis on African American adolescent males, father absenteeism, the school-to-prison pipeline, and intersectional identity development among BIPOC LGBTQ+ youth. His presentations at the 2025 Counselors for Social Justice conference highlighted strength-based counseling techniques, equity in career counseling, and advocacy strategies for marginalized populations.

Dr. Elzey is actively engaged in professional leadership as Immediate Past President of the Louisiana School Counselor Association and Co-Chair of the Diversity and Social Justice Committee within the Southern Association of Counselor Education and Supervision. He also serves as a National School Counselor Fellow with San Diego State University's Center for Equity and Postsecondary Attainment, focusing on enhancing postsecondary readiness for underserved students.
