Michelle R. Warren is the Mary Brinsmead Wheelock Professor of Comparative Literature and Senior Advisor for Faculty Development, Diversity, and Inclusion at Dartmouth College’s Arts and Sciences division. Her research bridges medieval studies, postcolonial theory, and digital humanities, focusing on how colonial capitalism shapes manuscript preservation and digitization. She holds a PhD from Stanford University (1993).
Research & Awards: Her book *Holy Digital Grail* (2022) won the 2023 History of the Book Prize. She has fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and ACLS. Her Mellon Foundation Grant (2016) advanced faculty diversity initiatives.
Leadership: As Senior Advisor, she advises on DEI strategies, faculty recruitment, and inclusion policies. Previously, she directed the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship program and served as Assistant Provost for Faculty Recruitment. She collaborates on national initiatives like College Horizons.
Labs/Teams: Leads *Remix the Manuscript*, studying digital manuscript ecologies through projects like the Dartmouth Brut Chronicle. The initiative explores how tools like Transkribus and ArcGIS reshape historical knowledge.
Teaching: Advocates for inclusive pedagogy, emphasizing global medieval literatures and translation. Her courses address the intersection of medieval texts with modern social justice frameworks.
