Mirchele Smith is a Research Associate at the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Center within the University of Oregon School of Law. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado and a JD from Lewis and Clark Law School (2008). Prior to her current role, she clerked for Justice Gregory J. Hobbs, Jr. of the Colorado Supreme Court and practiced in public and private sectors, including roles as Assistant Attorney General (Oregon DOJ), Associate Attorney at Davis Wright Tremaine, and Counsel at Lane Powell.
Her work focuses on applying legal tools and policies to address environmental challenges, designing new frameworks for conservation, and fostering partnerships for sustainability. She has contributed pro bono efforts to organizations like the Coalition of Oregon Land Trusts, ACLU of Oregon, and McKenzie River Trust. Her current position emphasizes leveraging legal strategies to advance environmental conservation goals.
