Michelle Russell-Mayhew is a Professor and Associate Dean of Research at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary. She is a Registered Psychologist and Child Health & Wellness Researcher at the Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute.

Her research integrates health and education through weight bias reduction, body image studies, and comprehensive school health frameworks. She leads the Body Image Research Lab, which employs a nested supervision model fostering transdisciplinary collaboration among postdoctoral scholars, doctoral, and master’s students. Her team has produced 55 graduate completions and 9 postdoctoral scholars, now in prestigious academic/research roles.
Key research trends include weight-neutral approaches in education/healthcare, stigma reduction in K-12 systems, and digital knowledge mobilization via the Comprehensive School Health Hub and PodClass podcast series. She has secured over $1.2M in grants since 2021, including SSHRC Insight Grants and UCalgary Teaching & Learning Awards.
