Dr. Michelle MacDonald is an Associate Professor in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences at McMaster University's Faculty of Health Sciences. She serves as Co-Director of the Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences program and contributes to the Biomedical Discovery & Commercialization Program. Her educational background includes a B.Sc. and Ph.D. from McMaster University in Biochemistry and Medical Sciences, respectively, followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Waterloo focused on fatty acid transport in Type 2 diabetes.
Her research interests center on undergraduate education in metabolism and science communication, bridging biochemical foundations with pedagogical innovation. She develops integrated learning approaches for healthcare solutions, emphasizing experiential projects that connect engineering principles with clinical applications.
As an educator, she designs project-based courses that track healthcare innovations from concept to market, mentoring students across disciplines to address real-world biomedical challenges.
