Dr Michelle Huang is a Lecturer in the School of Art History at the University of St Andrews. She holds a PhD in Art History from the University of St Andrews and has taught at institutions including the University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University. Her research focuses on cross-cultural art exchanges, the history of Chinese painting collections in Europe, and the role of diaspora artists. She has served as a visiting scholar at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the University of Oxford, and contributed to curatorial projects at the British Museum and Hong Kong Maritime Museum.
Her teaching covers Asian and Western art from the late 18th century to the present, including modules on Contemporary Chinese Art and Collecting Chinese Art. She supervises research projects such as the website 'Chinese Art and Culture in Scotland.' Her recent publications explore British responses to Chinese painting (1881–1940) and the legacy of Chinese women artists in Britain.
Dr Huang has published in journals like Journal of the History of Collections and The Burlington Magazine, and edited books on cross-cultural art encounters. She is currently completing a book manuscript on British collections of Chinese painting.
