Michelle Haberland is a Professor of History at Georgia Southern University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Humanities. Her work bridges historical research with interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on marginalized groups in the American South.
- Education: B.A. and M.A. from the University of Florida (1990, 1993), Ph.D. from Tulane University (2001).
Her research centers on Working-Class History, Southern History, Gender/Women’s History, and African American History, particularly examining labor dynamics in the Southern apparel industry and gendered consumer activism. Her publications, including the award-winning Striking Beauties: Women Apparel Workers in the United States South, 1930–2000 (2015), highlight intersectional analyses of race, gender, and class. Recent projects explore boycotts and consumer actions in the South's socio-political context.
Her scholarly output spans labor movements, unionization campaigns (e.g., JP Stevens), and oral histories documenting working women's experiences. She has contributed to edited volumes such as Entering the Fray (2010) and Work, Family, and Faith (2006).
