Dr. Michelle Guignet serves as an Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy within the University of Washington School of Pharmacy and is a core member of the Center for Epilepsy Drug Discovery (CEDD). Her work bridges preclinical research and clinical applications to develop novel therapies for neurological disorders, with a focus on epilepsy treatment advancement.
Her educational background includes:
- BS from Pennsylvania State University
- PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of California, Davis
Dr. Guignet's research integrates pharmacology and neuroscience to address drug-resistant epilepsy through innovative preclinical models. Her expertise spans medication adherence modeling, antiseizure drug discovery platforms, and translational neuroscience, aiming to overcome biological barriers in epilepsy treatment. She leverages over a decade of cross-sector experience from academic and government research settings to develop clinically relevant methodologies.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Early Career Award from the American Epilepsy Society
- Early Career Award from the Institute of Translational Health Sciences
Supported by early-career funding from major neuroscience organizations, Dr. Guignet leads translational projects within CEDD while teaching PHARM 499 (Independent Study) and PHARM 301. Her mentorship focuses on practical applications of pharmacological principles beyond standard drug mechanisms. The Center for Epilepsy Drug Discovery provides her primary research infrastructure, collaborating with UW's broader ecosystem including the CHOICE Institute and Plein Center for Aging to advance therapeutic development for neurological conditions.
