Michelle Glowa

Michelle Glowa is an Associate Professor in the Anthropology and Social Change department at the California Institute of Integral Studies' School of Consciousness and Transformation. With over two decades of experience in environmental and food justice movements across the United States and Mexico, her work centers on human-nature relations and alternative economies. She holds a B.S. in Natural Resource Management and Political Science from Colorado State University and a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Cruz.

Her research examines land access, property rights, and the role of autonomous organizations in food justice, emphasizing decolonial pedagogies and community-driven learning. She collaborates with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band to protect sacred landscapes and co-founded the Santa Cruz Free Skool, a grassroots educational project.
