Karen deVries, Ph.D., is an Instructor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). Previously, she taught at Montana State University in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Political Science, and the Honors College. She has received awards including the Betty Coffey Award (2017) and Lavender Leader Award (2018) for her service and advocacy.
Her interdisciplinary work focuses on intersections of feminist science studies, religious studies, political theory, and environmental humanities. She explores storytelling practices that reshape political landscapes in response to ecological crises. At Montana State, she developed courses like LGBTQ Studies, Diversity Matters, and Feminist Science Studies while mentoring under-represented students.
Her research bridges critical approaches to religion, gender studies, and environmental ethics. Recent work emphasizes democratic citizenship and ecological narratives. Earlier contributions include studies on rock mechanics and faith-based political movements.
Dr. deVries holds a Ph.D. from the History of Consciousness Department at UC Santa Cruz (advisor: Donna Haraway) and an MA from the University of Chicago Divinity School.
