Michelle Briggs

Michelle Briggs is Honorary Professor of Nursing through a joint appointment between University of Manchester School of Health Sciences and Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She leads the Supportive Pain and Palliative Care (SuPPaC) Research group and serves as Academic Career Development Theme Lead for NIHR ARC-GM.

Her research addresses:

• Patient-centered pain management approaches
• Clinical academic career pathways
• Inequities in pain treatment access
• Pressure ulcer prevention strategies
• Digital health interventions

Recent studies examine patient experiences during COVID-19, family dynamics in pediatric pain management, and digital tools for cancer symptom control. Research consistently focuses on vulnerable populations and healthcare inequalities. Her findings have informed NHS pain management guidelines and international nursing practices.

Administratively, she develops clinical academic career frameworks for nurses and allied health professionals. As Visiting Professor at Leeds Beckett University, she contributes to pain research initiatives and postgraduate supervision.
