Michelle Bechen

Michelle Bechen, LMSW, is a Professor of Social Work at Loras College. She teaches foundational courses including Introduction to Social Welfare, Social Work with Groups and Families, Social Policy, and Self-Care. Additionally, she contributes to the First Year Sequence curriculum, emphasizing student engagement and community support.

  • B.A. in Social Work, Clarke College (1996)
  • M.A. in Social Work, University of Iowa (1998)

Her research focuses on the neuroscience of trauma, particularly among college students, and explores brain-based healing methodologies. With extensive experience in HIV/AIDS prevention, gang intervention, and trauma counseling for diverse populations in San Francisco, she advocates for survivor-centered approaches in social work practice.
